Chapter 11

The Greatest Day Ever

Crowds of people are caught by surprise in their normal Sunday activities—Great storms and
tempests occur on the earth for many hours, followed by a bright and beautiful light appearing in the
center of the sky––In spite of evil, the world had been a glorious place.

"THIS IS A GOOD TIME TO REPENT!"

The thought of many in the crowd filling the streets outside one of several downtown
shopping centers. All were in amazement; a special day was at hand. Thick, dark clouds still
menaced from above, but of greater interest now was an unusually bright light billowing out
from the center of the sky.

A large sports stadium, still intact, dominated the nearby skyline. On a Sunday afternoon
like this, there might have been an exciting sports contest to attend. A resident of the city might
have also visited one of the many specialty shops along the boulevards to search out things of
interest. It was, to many, a day for attending a festival, an art exhibit, or any number of other
special events going on. All cities and countries of the world have their own unique beauty and
historical legacies to enjoy, so there are always interesting things to do for fun and relaxation on
the weekends. And the same holds true for the suburbs and the many small villages and towns. It
was a day for playing ball in the street, working in the yard, going grocery shopping, enjoying a
movie at the local theater, attending church, or spending time with friends and family at home.

Overall on this day, the world was a good place. While evil permeated the globe, perhaps
more than at any other time in its history, it was also true that most people of the earth lived
according to that wonderful spark of goodness given to them by their creator, often yielding to
feelings of love and compassion towards their fellow man. And, of these large populations of
honorable people, most were poor and humble before God. Making do with very little, and
patiently enduring hardships, they often found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. They
were good.

The most beautiful of all creations, however, were the little children. Filling the world
with their innocence, their eyes amazed at everything they saw each day, they were the essence
of good and the most celestial of all the bodies of nature. Innocent and beautiful as well, the
wonderful animals and tiny creatures of God also lived upon the earth. Great in both number and
variety, they provided companionship for man and fulfilled the measure of their creation. And

underneath all, the wondrous and bountiful earth itself, a footstool and meal table for both animal
and man.

All of these things being good, the world by design was glorious––a home for the
happiness and free agency of the human family.

But in the progression of time and the passing of seasons, there had been one great sin by
the world’s inhabitants: the sin of apathy—indifference towards the true and living restored
gospel of Jesus Christ. Oh, what they missed!

To feel the love of Jesus Christ. To be obedient to all of His commandments and
ordinances. To feel gratitude for His Atonement, that which was wrought for mankind. To follow
His example and live His teachings. To seek out and gain a personal knowledge of the true
nature of God the Father and His Son. To humble oneself. To be baptized by those in authority
and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. To dedicate one's life to establishing the kingdom of God
on earth. To endure to the end and receive the greatest of all His eternal blessings. And finally, to
achieve something more than just being born into this world and to share one's daily bread with
another. The aspirations of God the Father for his children were for much more than this.

This was the great evil of the world—so many who were blind and deaf and filled with
apathy. They knew of God, but did not know Him. For this reason, the heavens did weep for
them on this day.

Notable streets and business districts throughout the city were undergoing a scene like
that described––crowds of people standing outside in amazement. The ground had stopped
shaking just in the past hour, so it was now possible to stand erect and get one’s bearings. The
hours of winds, storms, and quaking of the earth had constrained many to lie prostrate and hug
the earth for survival, or to steady themselves partially off the ground on their hands and knees.
The calmness having returned, it was possible to assess the damage and consider the fallen. A
somber and humble mood was present. Evil had been scared away.

A powerful voice had been heard during the turbulence, and it was a commanding voice,
assuredly. Echoing throughout the streets, all could understand it in their own language. The
voice penetrated hearts and minds almost with a shock; innermost feelings and emotions were
caught by surprise. This was the final Sunday School lesson for humanity.

Eclipsing the sun with its unusual brightness, the light above was a marvel to see. The
rays of light brought comfort, overcoming even the warm and comforting sun. But this great
event was not actually a surprise. It was something expected, something inevitable––something
for which the designated time in the history of the earth had come.

A final testimony was spoken to the world––Jesus Christ lives! Delivered from above
with a penetrating voice, it came with thunderings, lightnings, and earthquakes. A celestial being
seen in the midst of the light.

The question as to the existence of God was now resolved.

The question as to the nature of God was now resolved.

This was the greatest day ever.
"}
